State councilor meets Lesotho's PM

State Councilor Wang Yong met with Lesotho's Prime Minister MotsoahaeThomas Thabane in Maseru, Lesotho, on Dec 13.

Wang said China-Lesotho relations have maintained a stable and positivemomentum of development in recent years. The two sides respect each other,treat each other equally, so the political mutual trust has graduallyincreased.

Last year Thabane attended the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-AfricaCooperation (FOCAC) and visited China. President Xi Jinping and Premier LiKeqiang met and held talks with the prime minister individually. Leaders of thetwo countries reached broad consensus, which injected strong impetus tobilateral cooperation, Wang said.

China always treats Lesotho as a sincere friend and partner, andappreciates that Lesotho adheres to the one-China principle, Wang noted. Chinais willing to strengthen the alignment of respective development strategiesunder the frameworks of FOCAC and the Belt and Road Initiative. China will alsoexpand practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges with Lesotho, andsafeguard common interests of developing countries in international affairs.

Wang said he believes the bilateral relations will achieve more resultswith efforts from the two sides.

Thabane said the current China-Lesotho relations are at their best inhistory. He appreciated China for the strong support and its selfless aid tothe social economic development of his country. Lesotho will continue to abideby the one-China principle, strengthen political mutual trust, and deepenmutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, Thabane said.

During his visit, the statecouncilor presided over a symposium for Chinese enterprises in Africa. He alsovisited Lesotho's national convention centre aided by China.
